Can We Solve the Climate Problem? Should We Even Try?
SVHE is honored to welcome renowned climatologist Philip Mote, director of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at Oregon State University. Mote’s address will shed light on how we can use scientific knowledge to tackle some of the world’s most complex environmental and societal issues.
A leading scientist on the impacts of climate change, Mote was a lead author of the 2007 report by the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Mote is a sought-after public speaker who has written more than 70 scientific articles and co-edited a book on climate modeling, Numerical Modeling of the Global Atmosphere in the Climate System, published in 2000.
A professor in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Science at Oregon State University, Mote previously was a research scientist with the Climate Impacts Group and professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at University of Washington. He has a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences from University of Washington and an undergraduate degree in physics from Harvard University
